Gram negative rods in csf8/28/2023 ![]() ( March 2014) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message)īacteria are traditionally classified based on their Gram-staining response into the gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Please help improve it to make it understandable to non-experts, without removing the technical details. This section may be too technical for most readers to understand. However some authors, such as Cavalier-Smith still treat them as a monophyletic taxon (though not a clade his definition of monophyly requires a single common ancestor but does not require holophyly, the property that all descendants be encompassed by the taxon) and refer to the group as a subkingdom "Negibacteria". Since 1987, the monophyly of the gram-negative bacteria has been disproven with molecular studies. Historically, the kingdom Monera was divided into four divisions based on Gram staining: Firmacutes (+), Gracillicutes (−), Mollicutes (0) and Mendocutes (var.). Most, with few exceptions, do not form sporesĪlong with cell shape, Gram staining is a rapid diagnostic tool and once was used to group species at the subdivision of Bacteria. Some contain Braun's lipoprotein, which serves as a link between the outer membrane and the peptidoglycan chain by a covalent bond.Lipoproteins are attached to the polysaccharide backbone.Teichoic acids or lipoteichoic acids are absent. If present, flagella have four supporting rings instead of two.The S-layer is directly attached to the outer membrane rather than to the peptidoglycan. ![]() Between the outer membrane and the cytoplasmic membrane there is a space filled with a concentrated gel-like substance called periplasm.Porins exist in the outer membrane, which act like pores for particular molecules.Has outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharides (LPS, which consists of lipid A, core polysaccharide, and O antigen) in its outer leaflet and phospholipids in the inner leaflet.A thin peptidoglycan layer is present (this is much thicker in gram-positive bacteria). ![]()

Jgrasp debugger eval8/28/2023 ![]() Some students report seeing a common error message when running jGRASP on their Mac, particularly when using the DrawingPanel. To tell jGRASP to number the lines of your program, press Ctrl-L or click View, Line Numbers. Line numbers are useful so that you can find the line where a compiler error occurs. To change this and make the files open in larger windows, click the third button on the bottom left of the jGRASP window. JGRASP has as annoying default setting that causes newly opened files to appear in small box windows. ![]() The bracket, along with its matching partner, will highlight in gray. ![]() To see which bracket matches a particular bracket in your program, hold the Ctrl key and hover your mouse over that bracket. ![]() jGRASP has a useful feature that matches pairs of brackets to help you track down these kinds of bugs. Students will have too many, too few, or just have them in the wrong places. As you step through the code, if a variable's value changes, it will turn red on the left. If you're running a program that uses variables, all of the variables' values will be shown on the left as well. The result is the following:Īny output that results from the code as it is being run will appear in the bottom console pane. For example, we'll Step In to the call of drawEgg from our previous example. The most useful of these buttons is Step In, so if you only learn to use one of them, make it that one. Auto Step: When you turn on this button and then press Step Over/In/Out, it will repeatedly perform that action.Resume: Tells the program to continue executing until it is finished, or until another breakpoint is encountered.Run to Cursor: Executes lines until reaching the line where your keyboard cursor is sitting.(If you click this while in your main method, it runs the rest of your entire program.) Step Out: Executes all remaining lines of the method you are currently in, and returns to the place from which it was called. If the current line is a method call, jumps inside that method and pauses at its first line of code. If the current line is a method call, runs that entire method call. From left to right, their behavior is the following: These buttons control the execution of the debugger. Notice that near the top-left corner of jGRASP, there is a new set of buttons. The next line to execute will be highlighted. The program will run until it hits the line of your breakpoint. Once you have set the breakpoint, compile your program (if you haven't already) and then press the ladybug icon to run it in debugging mode. (One good place to set a breakpoint is on the first line inside your main method, so that you can step through the entire program's execution.) ![]() To set a breakpoint, move your mouse cursor to the left margin of your file's editor window until the cursor becomes a stop sign, and press the left mouse button. To use it, first you must tell jGRASP where to pause the execution this is called a breakpoint. From there, you can run each line one at a time and see the results. The debugger lets you run your program partially and then stop it.

Quartz tuning fork sensor8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Based on the model ( Figure 1c), we can derive the resonance curve function, the oscillation amplitude A e versus the driving frequency f ( = w / 2 π ), for the measured electrical signal I e: Therefore, the total signal I e includes both the motion-induced signal I m and the capacitive signal I c. While the current through the LRC circuit I m represents the vibrational motion of the TF or qPlus, the C 0 produces the stray capacitance current I c. In the equivalent circuit, the LRC circuit is connected in parallel with a capacitance C 0, and thus the total signal I e is given by the sum of I m and I c. Therefore, one should consider the nonlinearity when using a quartz sensor to quantify the tip–sample interaction potentials and forces with milli-electron volt and pico-Newton resolutions. Note that the equivalent circuit describes the linear motion of a TF or qPlus, although a recent study showed the amplitude dependence of the resonance frequency in such quartz resonators. The electrical responses of the ED-TF ( Figure 1a) and ED-qPlus ( Figure 1b) are described well by the equivalent circuit model shown in Figure 1c. Both the actuation and the detection of the qPlus can also be made electrically ( c) The equivalent circuit model for quartz resonators (e.g., tuning fork, qPlus). ( a) The quartz tuning fork with two prongs can be electrically actuated and its dynamic response can also be measured electrically, where the two prongs move in opposite directions, in an antisymmetric mode of vibration ( b) The qPlus sensor is made by fixing one prong firmly to a supporting wall so that the other prong is allowed to vibrate. Two working configurations of electrically driven quartz tuning forks and the traditional electrical circuit model for quartz resonators. Our results could be useful to optimize sensors’ dynamic characteristics for quantitative interaction measurements with qPlus or TF. Furthermore, we introduce two intrinsic constants that are independent of the probe type, TF or qPlus. Our model predicts the changes in peak amplitude, resonance frequency, quality factor, and normalized capacitance from the TF to its qPlus configuration, and we confirm the changes experimentally. In this paper, we present an electromechanical model that comprehensively describes the motions of the ED-TF and ED-qPlus. ![]() Obviously, the one fixed prong affects the overall electromechanical characteristics in the qPlus configuration, but it is not quantitatively understood how the characteristics alter by transforming TF to qPlus. However, the dynamic characteristics of the ED-qPlus such as peak amplitude, resonance frequency, and quality factor are very distinct from those of the original form (i.e., bare TF), although they are both electrically driven and only one of the two prongs is fixed in the qPlus. The traditional equivalent circuit model for piezoelectric resonators can be used to describe the motion of both the ED-qPlus and electrically driven TFs (ED-TFs). While the mechanically driven qPlus allows analytical description of the probe dynamics, one could use the electrically driven qPlus (ED-qPlus) sensor to exploit the capability of self-actuation and self-detection. For TFs, the qPlus configuration is well-approximated as the harmonic oscillator when it is driven mechanically so that the qPlus sensor facilitates quantitative force measurement, and thus it is widely employed for dynamic force spectroscopy. Various mechanistic models of micro-cantilevers have been suggested based on a simple harmonic oscillator, a multi-mode oscillator, or normal and torsional deflections of a three-dimensional beam. For probes such as micro-cantilevers and quartz tuning forks (TFs), there have been long-investigated linear and nonlinear dynamics and associated models of the probes. Understanding the dynamics of a probe’s motion is important in order to use the probe as a quantitative force sensor in atomic force microscopy and spectroscopy. ![]()

Stem learning8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Successful students quickly learn how to think for themselves and abandon their expectations of being told what to think. This approach to education is often why those of us who are extremely analytical, but not especially creative, tend to struggle with STEM. Instead, you’ll often be required to use what you already know to figure out the right answer for yourself. This requires a significant amount of creativity and flexible thinking, as well as technical knowledge and mastery of each individual discipline. You’ll rarely be given the explicit solution to a problem. Which essentially means that the traditional learning style incoming freshman are used to-typically some form of memorization and recitation of information-is pretty much out the window. STEM is a new way of learning.Īs a philosophy, STEM is meant to create a program that integrates all four disciplines in a way that forces the student to use cross-disciplinary knowledge to solve problems. Math and science are only the tip of the iceberg. Alternatively, you might find that understanding these two subjects is actually easier for you than it has been in the past, given the practical way these subjects are taught in a STEM program.įor the rest of you super smart left brain types who excel at math and science, don’t get too excited just yet. It just means that STEM will likely be more difficult for you than others. However, this doesn’t mean that STEM is beyond reach if you’ve struggled with these subjects in the past. This is why students who don’t perform well in math or science so often quit STEM to follow an easier academic program. STEM careers share this heavy reliance on either math or science-often both. If an Architectural Engineering student needed to design a 10-story building, they would first need to understand the underlying mathematical and scientific principles that make a building like this possible. Science and math are particularly important in STEM because technology and engineering are dependant on them. Unfortunately, being able to quickly master these two subjects is an integral part of doing well in STEM. While technology and engineering might sound like fun (I mean, who wouldn’t want to build robots in class?) for a large portion of potential students, science and math are very much not fun. Remember, the disciplines that STEM focuses on are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It might be easier to fully understand how STEM subjects become a STEM program if you knew what a college-level STEM program actually looks like for a student. STEM is a complicated idea to wrap your head around. ![]() And, like, really difficult.ĭon’t worry if you’re still a little confused about all this. Without the integration of all four disciplines and the use of real-world teaching methods, you don’t get the educational benefits that make STEM degrees so valuable and careers in STEM fields so desirable.ĭo you think you might be interested in a career in STEM? Accelerated Pathways can help you out! Our team can talk to you about your goals and help you build a customized college plan designed to help you reach those goals (and save money along the way). This is important to understand because getting a math degree doesn’t necessarily mean you completed a STEM program, even if math is a STEM subject. However, STEM is much more than just a useful way of grouping subjects in a catchy acronym.Īt its core, STEM is a teaching philosophy that integrates all four disciplines together into a single, cross-disciplinary program which offers instruction in real-world (as opposed to purely academic) applications and teaching methods. So take a biology class in college, and technically you're taking a class that’s a part of STEM. ![]() Getting a definition for STEM is easy enough: it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. But what you might not have heard is what STEM actually is. You’ve also probably heard that people with STEM careers typically do pretty well financially. I’m sure you’ve heard how important STEM is. ![]()

![]() Bryan defends him, with results just as satisfying as in the original, and then there is the happy ending, even more satisfying, because when Bryan and Dorey get married, it is in the very same Chicago church where I got married, and so it was not possible to achieve critical objectivity. The movie follows the 1947 version into a courtroom where, after some shady tricks by a rival department store, an attempt is made to have old Kriss Kringle declared insane because he really does believe he's Santa Claus. Dorey is a cynic, once-wounded and twice shy, who doesn't believe in Santa, or love. Her own dad has not been seen for years, but Bryan ( Dylan McDermott), a lawyer who lives next door, is in love with her mother, Dorey ( Elizabeth Perkins). If there is, she knows what she wants: A father, a brother, and a house of their own. Meanwhile, little Susan ( Mara Wilson) is beginning to wonder if there might perhaps be a Santa Claus after all. In a touching twist on the earlier film, where Santa was able to talk to a Dutch girl in her own language, this Kringle uses sign language with a deaf girl. Kringle is such a hit in the parade that he gets the full-time job as Cole's Santa, and inspires good publicity by telling children the truth even when it means sending them across the street for cheaper prices at the evil Shopper's Express store ("Today! Free gum guns!"). Played in 1947 by Edmund Gwenn (who won the Oscar), he's portrayed this time by Richard Attenborough, whose eyes twinkle and whose beard, he proves, cannot be pulled off. The old man says his name is Kriss Kringle (Kriss is spelled with two s's in the new version, for no good reason). As in the earlier version, this " Miracle" begins with a charming old gentleman who is hired on sight and pressed into service after the department store's Santa gets drunk at the start of the annual New York Thanksgiving parade. The movie has been remade by producer John Hughes and director Les Mayfield, who follow the original fairly closely, but with a quieter, more elegiac tone. "This seems like a pretty pointless exercise," she sighs at one point, while climbing into Santa's lap.īut of course her disbelief in Santa Claus will not last long, because she finds herself in a retread of "Miracle on 34th Street," the 1947 classic about a department store Santa who may possibly be the genuine article. When 6-year-old Susan Walker sees a drunken Santa Claus, for example, she takes it right in stride: "Bombed? It's the pressure." Susan's mother is the PR director for Cole's, a big Manhattan department store, and so the kid knows the angles. Little girls are more sophisticated than they used to be. ![]()

Southwest airlines rules for baggage8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() In the event of a cancellation, passengers are refunded a travel credit in the amount spent on their ticket, and the credit may be used toward other Southwest Airlines or Southwest Vacations purchase. The company permits two free-of-charge checked bags per passenger, and passengers are permitted to change their flight up to 10 minutes prior to their flights without extra charge. Still, Southwest does offer many amenities, as follows: Southwest solely offers economy-class seats, and does not have business- or first-class cabins on its aircraft. Passenger experience A Southwest 737-800 at Baltimore–Washington International Airport In June 2021, they increased their overall purchase order of Max 7 planes to 234 jets in total. The order established Southwest Airlines as the largest purchaser of the Boeing jet model. In March 2021, Southwest announced an order for 100 MAX 7 jets. Using a single basic aircraft type allows Southwest pilots and flight attendants to crew any aircraft in the fleet without restrictions. Southwest is currently the largest worldwide operator of Boeing 737 aircraft. In its history, Southwest Airlines has operated only Boeing 737 jetliners, except from 1979 to 19 to 1985, when it leased and operated a few Boeing 727-200s. History Īs of December 2022, Southwest Airlines operates 771 aircraft. The airline has nearly 66,100 employees and operates about 4,000 departures a day during peak travel season. It exclusively uses Boeing 737 jets in its fleet. Southwest's business model is distinct from other US airlines as it uses a rolling hub and point-to-point network and allows free checked baggage. Southwest currently serves airports in 42 states and multiple Central American destinations. It began regional interstate service in 1979, expanding nationwide in the following decades. and adopted its current name, Southwest Airlines Co., in 1971, when it began operating as an intrastate airline wholly within the state of Texas, first flying between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The airline was established on March 9, 1967, by Herb Kelleher and Rollin King as Air Southwest Co. It is currently the third largest airline in North America based on passengers flown. As of 2018, Southwest carried more domestic passengers than any other United States airline. It is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and has scheduled service to 121 destinations in the United States and 10 additional countries. is an airline based in the United States and the world's largest low-cost carrier. ![]()

Coyote ragtime show april8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() So far, this anime’s plot is pretty minimal, but it makes up for this with all of the action. Super annoying girl Chelsea gets a job working with Angelica. Eventually, the planet’s giant bugs save the day and junkify the androids. Her hunch is correct, but before she can capture Mister, he sets up a daring jailbreak! Some android mercenary group who also wants Mister shows up and carnage ensues. For four years, Angelica Barnes (or Burns, or Barns) has been chasing a criminal known as “Mister!” She makes her way to a prison where she thinks Mister is being held. So does Coyote Ragtime Show actually deliver?Ĭoyote Ragtime Show is your basic cat and mouse hunt anime. The trailer promised us lots of action and high quality animation. Also, it’s OP is pretty catchy.Coyote Ragtime Show is probably the highest budget anime of the season. Coyote Ragtime Show might not come close to being a classic like the shows that it’s been compared to, but much like those series, it’s not going for high class or arthouse, simply trying to be a fun space adventure, and with those intentions, it does succeed, and is worth watching for those looking to find something like the classics, even if itself is not a classic. While there isn’t too much to say about this series, it does stand on it’s own and a good time. It feels like a highly underused setting. And I kinda wish more series used a rustic sci-fi setting, just in general. ![]() And sure, there is a lull somewhere in the middle, but I imagine the series as a whole would be worse off if it tried to keep the action amped up to 11 the whole time.Īesthetically, the series goes for a very rustic lived in world for it’s sci-fi settin, which helps this series to stand out from other stuff coming out around the same time. The series comes with a large colorful cast of characters with varied and interesting designs, and while not all of them get a fleshed out backstory, they all get enough of a time in the spotlight, all being memorable in their own ways and it’s really easy to tell them all apart. But that’s not to say this series is bad by any stretch, and there is a lot to enjoy here. With those comparisons and a plot like that, this series is setting some fairly high standards for itself, but is it anywhere as good as those series? Unfortunately, the series never reaches the heights of the influences that it’s taking from. Soon, the group of Coyote’s are chased by the Twelve Sisters who want to take out Mister and capture Franca along with Detective Angelica and her assistant, as she wants to take Mister into custody, as the time is running out to get the treasure. As Mister escapes, he seeks out Franca, the daughter of his best friend Pirate King “Blue” Bruce, as they seek out the treasure Blue left for Franca to inherit on a planet called Graceland, which is in a civil war and faces immanent destruction from the Milky Way Federation in a week. As he is escaping, an elite squad of android assassins show up sent by Madame Marciano to take out Mister. Right as Angelica and Chelsea arrives at the prison Mister is located at, Mister breaks out only 10 days from released with the help of his old partners Bishop and Katana. A loyal but clumsy assistant named Chelsea meets her on the planet to help her. She finally received an anonymous tip that Mister was at a prison and the desert planet of Sandvil. Detective Angelica Burns has spent the last four years trying to track him down. One of the most infamous Coyotes is Mister, who goes by many different aliases. Our story starts in the future, there are space outlaws called Coyotes who commit crimes but share a strong bond of friendship that a true Coyote wouldn’t betray. With all that going for it, this series definitely drew in my interest. All of the promotional material showed something that hearkened back to classic sci-fi action adventure series such as Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Outlaw Star, and a lot of people who had seen it seemed to be making the same comparisons. When I was looking for a series to watch, I came across Coyote Ragtime Show. ![]()
