The EP is being released February 4th, 2022 by Already Dead Cassettes and will be available on cassette (duh!), as a paid download, and on streaming platforms.Īt present, The Royal Arctic Institute comprises five musicians who have played extensively with other groups and/or as backing/session musicians: drummer Lyle Hysen (Das Damen, Arthur Lee), guitarists John Leon (Roky Erickson, Summer Wardrobe, Abra Moore) and Lynn Wright (And The Wiremen, Bee And Flower, Shilpa Ray), bassist David Motamed (Das Damen, Two Dollar Guitar, Arthur Lee, Townes Van Zandt), and keyboardist Carl Baggaley (Headbrain, Gramercy Arms).Īll the pieces were created communally, deconstructing then reconstructing of material initially composed by guitarist John Leon. The album was recorded and produced by James McNew (Yo La Tengo) in the historic Neumann Leather Factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. His songwriting shows no sign of stopping, as more music is set to release through the end of 2023.īIO 2021: From Catnap To Coma is The Royal Arctic Institute’s first full exploratory mission in their current five-piece incarnation. The wit and imagery infused in each song yield every human emotion from ecstasy to melancholy. Tobin’s lyrics are reminiscent of that of Dylan, Prine, and Springsteen to name a few. ![]() With two full-length albums, two EPs and hundreds of shows under their belts, Sean Tobin & the Boardwalk Fire released their third studio album, Ghost of the Arcade, in June of 2022. From hard-hitting drum fills and ambient fiddle riffs, to crunchy guitars and booming bass-lines, the band invites any crowd in for a show that will make them forget about life for a while. Tobin and his backing band, the Boardwalk Fire, are a tireless, high-powered rock group that blow the roof off of every venue they play. He has performed at such festivals as SXSW, Americanafest, North2Shore, and Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings, and has opened for the likes of Jason Isbell, Rhett Miller, and many more more. Tobin honed his craft playing countless shows in dives, clubs and basements, as well as during his time busking on the streets of Galway, Ireland throughout 20. His high-energy performances and rock n’ roll-tinged releases are due mostly in part to his upbringing in the Jersey shore bar scene. Born and raised on the New Jersey shore, Sean Tobin was influenced by folk-singing troubadours and high-energy rockers alike. ![]()
